Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

Can anyone please give me any information regarding what’s it’s like
to live with a pacemaker. A very dear freind ours is about to get a
pacemake and would like find out what she can expect. She is in her
early forties and would like to find a support group. She’s been a
very active woman and is concerned about what to expect regarding the
limitations and the do’s and don’ts of living with a pacemaker.

REQ: Help researching antioxidant researchers

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

Hi,

I’m a journalist who’s somewhat new to covering health beats and I’ve been
assigned to do a story on antioxidants (and, as they relate, free radicals,
et cetera), so…

This is an open, world-wide call to professionals (in the public or private
sectors) doing research (and those who know who’s-who) in the field: If
you’d have the time to do a phone interview (or simply correspond via
E-Mail) with me sometime between now and the second week of January (1997),
I’d love to hear/read what you have to say. Please reply via E-Mail to
be…@javanet.com (the "0" is a numeral).

Thank you in advance for your time.

Digitalis for MI? (9)

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

*THEME FOR DISCUSSION* – "EARLY DEAMBULATION IN PATIENTS TREATED WITH
STROPHANTHIN G OR K OR DIGITALIS DURING THE ACUTE MYOCARDIAL INFARCTION
(AMI)" – After 1972, with the use of cardiotonics for the AMI, we
established an early and sure deambulation to our patients, which was
revolutionary at that time. – # The deambulation for patients with the
infarctioning picture as arrested or avoided, takes place in the 5th day
and in the declared infarction , it takes place in the 10th day. The
discharge of patients from hospital is realized one day after. The
mortality rate related with the early deambulation was 0.4% in 1290
cases. Quintiliano H. de Mesquita, M.D.

How much is enough?

Saturday, March 27th, 2010

First post to this group.  After two stents and several balloons with a
quadruple bypass in between all within the last 18 months, how much is
enough?  I am 42, lupus/pbc/sjogren’s/CAD and am hearing heart/liver
transplant from my docs.  Liver is mass producing cholesterol.  Taking
pravachol and Actigall to nip it in the bud from both directions.  Stuff
that fills my arteries is cheesy and sponges back when ballooned instead of
opening up.  Take about a dozen different RXs each day.  One graft is no
good and the other 3 are lousy.  I believe my doc says he is "appalled at
the rapid deterioration of my heart in the past six months since the bypass
surgery" and that was two months ago he said that.  Last visit he commented
that we might be able to do a couple more balloons but anyway you look at
it, it was gonna be a long, tough go.  Graduated cardiac rehab exercise.
Love it.  Where do I go for info?  Where do we draw the line?  Or does some
transplant agency dictate when and where along with my insurance company?
What role does the patient play in seeking transplant as far as contacting
other docs, etc?  Any info, links, appreciated.  How do you determine if
the heart is damaging the liver or vice versa or are they independent of
each other?  Do internists know enough to handle this?  Cardiologists?  Is
this autoimmune disease treated differently from ‘normal’ people with heart
disease and liver disease?  Anesthesia hyperprocessed through liver during
bypass surgery and I was awake with sensation and distinct accurate recall
ability during the grafting process, initial heart/lung machine. harvesting
grafts, closing, clean up(documented by medical team).  How can I be
assured this wont happen again since my liver is still sick?  This has been
hard and it seems it will be harder still.  Family of strong faith.  Woud
appreciate encouragement.

Chest wall pain

Saturday, March 27th, 2010

After surgery to remove a tumor (benign) from the vagus nerve (3 years
ago) I am still having recurrent chest pain and pain and numbness down
the left arm and in the left side of the face and neck. My doctor has
taken all the precautions to rule out coronary disease, angina, etc.
Presently being treated with pain medication.  Any suggestions to end
this or perhaps lessen the episodes.  The only thing that prevents
recurrence is not doing any type of physical or strenuous activity.
This is not only restricting exercise but normal activities to a
minimum.  60% of the vagus nerve was removed at the bifurcation of the
carotid artery.

Any software available to view CDRom angiograms on the PC?
