CARDIO-CONSULT TOPIC #1: 41 yo male with atrial fibrillation
The patient is a 41 year old manager with no significant
past medical history. He presented because of an episode of
light-headedness while playing tennis and was found to be in
atrial fibrillation. On no medication, his BP was 126/78,
his apical rate 95-100 in AF, and the rest of his physical
examination was normal. He does not smoke and denied excess
alcohol use. His ECG was normal except for the rhythm.
Initial questions:
1. What test(s) should be done at this visit?
2. Does he need to be hospitalized?
3. Should an attempt be made to restore sinus rhythm?
4. What, if any, medication should be prescribed?
