Mediconsult.com is a comprehensive source of information and services
dedicated to patients and their relatives. One of its missions is to
provide free, easy to understand, accurate and up to date information
about Heart Conditions. Mediconsult.com recognizes that patients and
family members want to get involved in the decision process regarding
their care. This implies learning about their condition, the
diagnostic tools and the therapeutic options available, as well as
learning about lifestyle changes that could benefit them.
One of our services is called "Journal Club". On a weekly basis, we
choose 2 or 3 articles on Heart Conditions from the medical literature
that we believe are of interest to patients, relatives or other
interested users. Our medical writers summarize the content of these
articles in layman terms. The principal author of each article is then
personally contacted by phone and questions of general interest
regarding the article are asked. These questions and answers are
reproduced for you at the end of each summary.
Another service provided is called "Support Group".The Support Group
allows our visitors to post comments, ideas or questions to a public
Heart Conditions bulletin board to encourage sensible discussion of
topics pertaining to Heart Conditions. Messages can be posted
anonymously or with e-mail and/or names noted. Check out what other
people have to say about their experiences, then post your own message
about your experiences to help other people raise their level of
understanding about Heart Conditions. Also, during the summer, medical
students will be helping us in taking some of the questions posted to
experts in this field working in leading medical institutions. Their
answers will be reproduced on this site. The submission process is
moderated to ensure that inappropriate messages are not posted.
