Thallium Stress Test

March 8th, 2010

Hi,

I have to go through TST(I have costochondritis and sometimes it is very
difficult to tell the source/location of the chest pain whether it is
due to costochondritis-from the ribs or the heart). Otherwisw I feel
fine and my resting EKG is also fine.
Are there any side effects or risks in taking TST(I am allergic to
radio-opaque dye) ?

Are there any other tecniques/ways to differentiate costochondritis from
the real chest(heart) pain ?

If anybody has gone through the TST your feedback from your experience
would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

cheers
Shrikant

A Change in PAC's

March 8th, 2010

Have had benign PAC’s on and off for many years. I would get one every
few minutes or so and then they would subside. Lately I’ve been getting
them in a straight series of 5 or 6 beats, one after another.
They would subside and not reoccur for hours. But each episode is
exactly the same, a straight series of 5 or 6 PAC’s. Occasionally, I’ve
been able to stop them by bending or stretching.
Any Comments please.
Thanks,
Ben

Subclavian Stent!

March 8th, 2010

I am a 30 year old male in good health.  Nine months ago I was diagnosed
with Thoracic Outlet Syndrome and Paget-Von Shroetter Syndrome.  The clot in
the subclavian vessel was approximately 7cm in length.  I have had a left
anterior scalenectomy, a balloon angioplasty of the left subclavian vein and
a left subclavian vein intravascular wall stent placement.  I have been on
coumadin therapy and it seems as though a thrombis begins to grow in the
stent as soon as I am taken off of coumadin.  The doctor I am currently
seeing basically gives me two choices, become a lifetime coumadin patient or
allow the stent to possibly become completely obstructed again and let the
surrounding veins pick up the slack.  I am not asking for your opinion but
would like any references on this you may have.  I just want to make an
informed decision.

Verapamil and Palpitations

March 7th, 2010

I have been taking verapamil (180mg SR) for two years for migraine
prophylaxis.  Since taking the medication I have experienced periodic
episodes of palpitations/irregular heartbeats.  My question is twofold.
First, is this something to be concerned about?  I have had an EKG and
Holter monitor and my GP claims these palpitations are benign.

Secondly, are these irregularities the result of the medication itself
or a result of a possible calcium imbalance caused by the calcium
channel blocker’s mechanism?  In other words, can I counteract this
effect by taking calcium supplements?

Thanks, and pardon my ignorance in this area.
