Re: Pre-mature heart beat? Help.

I’ve been diagnosed with MVP, but had the echo while the PVCs were
occuring. I asked the same question because the increased pressure could
cause funny things to happen with the valves, but my answer was the MVP
caused the PVCs. Actually, the caffeine from iced tea seems to cause my
PVCs. If I start drinking the iced tea frequently, the PVC at night come back.
If I continue drinking the stuff, I can get flutters during the day also,
or specifically when I am at rest. Before I knew what was going on, I was
drinking up to 5 bottles of Snapple Diet Iced Tea a day, and the PVCs got
so bad that every third beat was a skip all day. I also was having trouble
breathing and was rushed to a hospital were I spent two days in the cardiac
floor.

The bottom line:  If you have MVP, watch your caffiene intake. And
more importantly, get antibiotics before letting a dentist work on
you. Eddy currents, which are blood currents that can rotate around the
Mitral valve for a person with MVP, can be filled with bacteria after having
dental work since your mouth has a very high bacterial content. This bacteria
can stick to the mitral valve and attack it making it worse.

This is what we call subacute bacterial endocarditis, SBE for short. The
bacteria grow into clumps on the valve and form what we term "vegetation".
If untreated, this bacterial growth will actually feed on the valve tissue
creating an incompetant, leaky valve. The regurgitation is severe, the
only treatment would be valve replacement via open heart surgery.

    My two cents,

    Elton
