Webmaster’s Report

This month we enter our 7th consecutive quarter on the World Wide
Web! Not many sites can boast of this achievement. Other sites
have followed our lead and even copied our innovations. As they
say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

Speaking of competition, we think that in the not-too-distant
future there will be a "shake-out" of Internet medical sites akin
to corporate mergers. This is the logical next step in the
evolution of sites as competition for readership heats up. After
all, how many sites can a limited number of readers consistently
visit week after week? It just becomes information overload.

We thank our readers for consistently choosing
PharmInfoNet as one of their favored drug information
sites on the Internet and hope you stay with us for the
          next 7 quarters!

PharmInfoNet hopes to continue to focus on original content, but
we also plan to help our readers find other medical sites that are
highly regarded. That is one of the primary goals of our
revitalized Disease Centers, in which healthcare professionals
will help us organize and rate different sites. If you are a
professional interested in working with us and specialize in a
specific therapeutic area, please contact us through the Webmaster
     email address (webmas…@pharminfo.com)

     Discussion Groups
When visiting us, keep in mind that PharmInfoNet is not just a web
site. We also are involved with many email discussion groups for
professionals and patients. All these discussions are moderated
and serve the purpose of keeping people informed about new
research in specific therapeutic areas. Groups such as GASTRO-EHLB
and DIABETES-EHLB started off as the means for delivering
Electronic Highlights Bulletins of major medical meetings. After
the meetings, the majority of subscribers voted to maintain the
lists as disease-specific discussion groups allowing members to
discuss topics of interest to them. As an extra-added benefit we
have recruited experts to act as editors of several groups and to
develop specific topics for discussion and help subscribers find
     answers to their questions.

     Reorganization
You’ve probably seen some changes in our home page. We’ve
reorganized slightly the main offerings to reflect readers’
interest in specific areas — based upon our usage statistics.
Hopefully, what we’ve done is make it easier for you to access
     these areas.

Here’s what you can find under each heading:

     [Disease Centers] http://pharminfo.com/disease/disdb_mnu.html

o Resources for Patients (finding clinical trials, patient
          newsgroups, web sites)
        o General Medical Information Sites
o Various therapeutic-specific information centers, including:
          Cancer Disease Center,
        o Digestive Disease Center,
        o Cardiovascular Disease Center,
o Mental Health and Nervous System Disease Center, and
o Respiratory Tract Disease Center. With more planned. Each
center organizes information on PharmInfoNet and elsewhere on
the Internet according to disease. And each center is — or
will be — associated with a specific email discussion group
to help you get answers to your questions from qualified
          experts.

     [Drug Information] http://pharminfo.com/drg_mnu.html

o Drug Database: DrugDB. This is a browsable and searchable
index to articles and resources arranged by generic and brand
          drug names.
o sci.med.pharmacy Archive: smp Archive. A selected archive of
discussion threads from the sci.med.pharmacy newsgroup.
o Frequently-Asked Questions: (DrugFAQs). Answers to your

          Pharmaceutical Companies about their products.

     [Medical Meeting Highlights]

posters made at major medical meetings. Includes: 1996
American Diabetes Association Meeting (June 1996),
o EHLB from the 1996 Digestive Disease Week Meeting,
o Highlights of the 11th Annual Meeting of the American Society
          of Hypertension (May 1996),
o Highlights of the 10th Annual Meeting of the American Society
          of Hypertension (May 1995),
o Highlights from the 60th Annual Meeting of the American
          College of Gastroenterology (Oct 1995).
o PosterNet. An peer-reviewed offering of poster presentations
submitted by researchers. The latest — although unpublished
in the medical literature — in scientific research.
o A listing of Upcoming Medical Meetings

     [Discussion Groups] http://pharminfo.com/conference/groups.html

o Information about joining email discussion groups and
selected archives from discussion groups. Groups include
          MSB-L, CLINICAL-TRIALS, GASTRO-EHLB, ASH-EHLB (hypertension),
          and DIABETES-EHLB. More planned.
o Ask Us Forum where readers can post their questions for our
experts or other readers to answer.

     [Publications] http://pharminfo.com/pubs/pubs_mnu.html

o Peer-reviewed articles focused on new drugs and drug
          therapies. Includes: Medical Sciences Bulletin®,
        o Electronic Highlights Bulletin,
o Transgenica(tm): Topics in Clinical Biotechnology.

     [PharmMall] http://pharminfo.com/pharmmall/pm_hp.html

o Where to find products and services designed for the
pharmaceutical and medical industry, patients, and
          health-care professionals.

     [Pharmacy Corner]
     http://pharminfo.com/pharmcorn/pharmcorn_hp.html

o Pharmacy Corner is devoted to the concerns and needs of
          practicing pharmacists. Includes: Jobs Listing
o Business Opportunities: selling your pharmacy? List it here
          for FREE!
o Want Ads: where you can post your FREE ad for employment.

     [PharmLinks] http://pharminfo.com/phrmlink.html

o Up-to-date links to Internet resources (web sites, email
discussion groups, etc.) for drug information, pharmaceutical
companies, schools of pharmacy, associations, government
          sites, etc.

     [Gallery] http://pharminfo.com/gallery/glly_mnu.html

o A viewing of original pharmaceutical- and drug-related art,
sculture, and pottery. Donations accepted! Includes:
          Molecular Graphics Art,
        o History of Pharmacy,
        o Crystal Apothecary,
        o Medicinal Plants Engravings.

     This Month’s Offerings
This month we’ve added articles from the June issue of Medical
Sciences Bulletin. If you wish to receive MSB sooner, we urge you
to subscribe to MSB-L and get the newsletter via email. There is
no charge for this service, although we do ask for a one-time $50
     lifetime subscription donation.

We’ve spent some time this month gathering together answers to
your questions about specific drugs to build up our DrugFAQs area.
We hope to add to this database significantly in the coming
     months.

Slowly, but surely, we are also maintaining our archive of the
sci.med.pharmacy newsgroup with a couple of updates to be followed
by several others within a week or so.

Thanks for your support…
